November 1 is one of the quiet dates on the MMA calendar — no title classic, no famous upset carries it. What it has, for now, is a single Apex night in Las Vegas where one of the featherweight division's most relentless finishers kept a streak alive at the expense of a man headlining for the first time.
2025 — Garcia runs through Onama in Las Vegas
Steve Garcia came into UFC Fight Night 263 on a six-fight winning streak, ranked No. 12 at featherweight. Across from him stood David Onama, the only Ugandan fighter on the UFC roster, riding four straight wins of his own and walking into the first main event of his career.
The fight barely became a contest. Garcia pressed from the opening exchange and never let Onama set his feet: by the stoppage he had landed 33 significant strikes to Onama's two, scored a knockdown, and forced the referee to step in at 3:34 of the first round.
The win was Garcia's seventh in a row — a run built on five straight knockouts before a decision over Calvin Kattar the previous July, and a long way from his stalled start: a Contender Series finish in 2019 that earned no contract because he missed weight, and a knockout loss to Maheshate in 2022 that began the streak rather than ending his chances. Onama, stopped for the first time in the UFC, fell to 14-3.
Also on this day
- 2025 — Waldo Cortes-Acosta knocked out Ante Delija at 3:59 of the first round in the co-main event of the same Apex card.
- 2025 — Yadier del Valle submitted Isaac Dulgarian with a first-round rear-naked choke on the same card.
A quiet date, then — but quiet dates are where streaks like Garcia's do their work, one short night at a time.
