“He f***ing looked good.”

— Sean O’Malley

Sean O’Malley picked against Marlon Vera — and he’s man enough to say it out loud.

“I said, ‘I think this might be the time that Chito finally gets put down, put out,’” O’Malley admitted after UFC 331. Instead, Vera delivered what O’Malley called possibly the best performance of his career.

The context makes it hit harder. Chito walked in on a four-fight losing streak, fresh off splitting with longtime coach Jason Parillo, fighting to prove he still belongs. What followed was the old Chito: violent, patient, then suddenly not patient at all. Dangerous Charles Jourdain, unbeaten at bantamweight, got broken down and stopped in Los Angeles — three knockdowns, a bantamweight record, waved off at 2:02 of the third. The win tied Vera with O'Malley and T.J. Dillashaw for the most KO wins in UFC bantamweight history, seven.

First win in three years. And it came with the loudest cosign in the division.

“This might have been his best performance yet against a very dangerous Charles Jourdain.” A former rival giving flowers where they’re due — no salt, just respect.

Is the old Chito officially back — and who should get him next?
