YAN Vows DECISIVE Win Over DVALISHVILI To END Trilogy
“I want to win in spectacular, decisive fashion.”
Petr Yan wants no scorecards and no debate when he defends his bantamweight title against Merab Dvalishvili at UFC 333.
"I want to win in spectacular, decisive fashion," Yan said on UFC 333 Countdown. He wants the finish to leave no questions about his story with Merab.
Why This One Ends The Argument
Yan and Dvalishvili are tied at one win each. Dvalishvili dominated their first fight. Yan dominated the rematch last December and took the belt back.
That makes Saturday in Abu Dhabi the decider. The winner does not just keep or win a title. The winner closes a three-fight argument at the top of the division.
The Champion's Case
Yan enters at 20-5 and rides a four-fight win streak. The win over Dvalishvili in December started this second run with the belt.
He has held UFC gold before. He lost his first title defense by disqualification to Aljamain Sterling. He also held the interim belt on the way up.
"I want to win in spectacular, decisive fashion."
That short line tells the whole plan. Yan does not want a close third fight. He wants a clear gap between champion and challenger.
What A Statement Win Changes
A second straight clear win over Dvalishvili would be hard to answer. It would make another rematch tough to sell for a long time.
It would also set Yan up for a real run as champion. Beating the same elite rival twice in a row proves the December result was no one-night edge.
Dvalishvili still brings the pace and pressure that won him the first fight. Yan has seen that game for ten full rounds across two fights. Nothing on Saturday will be new to him.
So here is the only question that matters on fight night: does Yan get the clean ending he promised, or does Merab drag this trilogy into one more chapter?
