UMAR NURMAGOMEDOV Joins RAF, Faces URIJAH FABER in Abu Dhabi
“It is a debut, a reset, and a fascinating style clash all in one.”
The Dagestani bantamweight makes his Real American Freestyle debut November 14 against 'The California Kid.'
Umar Nurmagomedov is going back to his roots. The former UFC title challenger has signed with Real American Freestyle and will wrestle Urijah Faber at RAF Abu Dhabi on November 14. It is a debut, a reset, and a fascinating style clash all in one.
Why It Matters Now
This is bigger than one wrestling match. RAF Abu Dhabi launches a five-year partnership in the region, headlined by Khamzat Chimaev vs. Colby Covington for the cruiserweight crossover title. Umar vs. Faber sits on the undercard — but it might be the purest grappling test of the night.
The Matchup
Umar, 30, brings a 20-2 MMA record and seven submission wins to the mat. Faber is 0-2 in RAF, dropped by technical fall to Henry Cejudo at RAF 6 and to Arman Tsarukyan at RAF 8.
But the California Kid is a former WEC featherweight champion and an NCAA Division I wrestler. This is not a tune-up. It is a test.
The Timing
Umar is coming off a brutal knockout loss to Song Yadong at UFC Shanghai in August — only his second defeat. The first was the title-fight decision to Merab Dvalishvili at UFC 311. He answered that one with wins over Mario Bautista and Deiveson Figueiredo. Now he answers the second one on the wrestling mat.
The Card
RAF Abu Dhabi runs November 14 at Etihad Arena on Yas Island. Chimaev vs. Covington headlines for the cruiserweight crossover title. Kyle Snyder faces Shamil Erdogan. The event airs on FOX Nation and opens a five-year partnership between RAF, Abu Dhabi's tourism department, and the UAE Wrestling Federation.
Wrestling purists, this one's for you. Does the Dagestani system run through the veteran — or does the Kid finally get his first RAF win? Let that sink in.
