PACHECO Says Market CLOSED Its Doors — HARRISON's Conqueror Waits
“The market has kind of closed its doors on me.”
The only woman to beat Kayla Harrison says no major promotion will sign her, nearly a year after the PFL let her go.
"The market has kind of closed its doors on me."
Larissa Pacheco said that this week, and the line is hard to argue with. She is a former two-division PFL champion with a 23-5 record. Almost a year after the PFL released her, she still has no MMA home.
A Résumé Nobody Will Buy
Pacheco won the PFL lightweight title in 2022 and the featherweight title in 2023. In the 2022 final she beat Kayla Harrison, who is still the only loss on Harrison's record.
It took three tries to do it. Harrison beat Pacheco twice in the PFL before Pacheco won the third meeting and took the title with it. That is persistence at the highest level.
Harrison now holds UFC gold at bantamweight. Pacheco also went five hard rounds with Cris Cyborg in a 2024 title fight. Her last MMA win came in 2023, a decision over Marina Mokhnatkina that capped a run with seven first-round knockouts.
Too Dangerous To Sign?
Pacheco tried to return to the UFC. The answer was no. She believes the promotion worries she would disrupt the bantamweight division it is trying to build.
The same door closed in Europe. KSW and Oktagon both passed, and Pacheco says promoters struggle to find opponents willing to face her. A champion who might take a belt and stall a division is, in her telling, a hard sell.
She has not sat still. Pacheco beat Julia Stasiuk at Karate Combat to show she can still make 135 pounds. The proof changed nothing. No MMA offer followed.
Let that sink in. The woman who solved Kayla Harrison cannot buy a fight at 32, in her prime, with two world titles on her shelf.
So who finally blinks — a promotion that needs a proven bantamweight star, or Pacheco, waiting on a phone that stays silent?
