JON JONES TROLLS DILLON DANIS AFTER RAF 14 SHUTOUT

“Dennis congratulations on another dominating performance. Way to not give it to them too easy… I know Mike Tyson is somewhere so proud of you. Absolute stud, America's best.”

— Jon Jones, on Instagram

Jon Jones could not resist. After Dillon Danis fell 10-0 to Arman Tsarukyan at RAF 14, Jones congratulated "Dennis" on another dominating performance — the sharpest joke of a rivalry built on Danis's own boasts.

Jon Jones did not announce a fight. He delivered a punchline.

After Dillon Danis lost 10-0 to Arman Tsarukyan in the RAF 14 main event on Friday, Jones weighed in with an Instagram comment that said the opposite of what happened — and everybody knew it.

"Dennis congratulations on another dominating performance," Jones wrote. "Way to not give it to them too easy… I know Mike Tyson is somewhere so proud of you. Absolute stud, America's best."

That is the whole joke, and it is a good one. Danis did not dominate anything. He got shut out.

The Result Behind The Joke

Tsarukyan's 10-0 technical fall gave him the inaugural RAF middleweight crossover title and left Danis 0-3 in Real American Freestyle.

The first two losses came against Colby Covington and Khamzat Chimaev. The Chimaev finish was the second-fastest in the promotion's history, though Danis did manage one bright moment in the Covington match — a takedown that even his critics had to acknowledge.

None of that is new. The result was Saturday's story. What is new is Jones deciding, a day later, that he had seen enough to say something.

Why This One Lands

For years, Danis has said he could beat anyone in the cage — from Jon Jones to Khabib Nurmagomedov.

That is the boast Jones is answering. Not with an argument. With a nickname he did not earn and praise he did not deserve.

Danis is, by every account, a real grappler — a renowned jiu-jitsu black belt, unbeaten in MMA. He is also a man who has fought just three times since his MMA debut in April 2018.

The gap between the talk and the record is the whole bit. Jones just pointed at it.

What Danis Does Next Is Unclear

His MMA return has stalled. MMA News reports Danis pulled out of an August fight with Mike Perry after a training cut, and recently claimed Nick Diaz had agreed to fight him — though Diaz's side has not confirmed it.

So the scoreboard reads like this. In MMA, Danis is unbeaten and barely active. In RAF wrestling, he is 0-3 and just got shut out for a title. And now the greatest fighter of his generation is congratulating a man named Dennis on a dominating performance that never happened.

No Jones vs. Danis fight is announced here. Nothing in the reporting suggests one is coming. This was not a callout. It was a troll, delivered in one comment, and it worked because Danis wrote the setup himself years ago.

You love to see it — the rare case where the punchline lands harder than the fight did.
