UNBEATEN SMITH TAKES THE SHORT-NOTICE CALL — BROWN GETS A NEW CO-MAIN
Jacobe Smith did not wait for the UFC to build him slowly. Days after another first-round finish, he took the hardest fight of his life on short notice.
Smith (13-0) steps in to face veteran Randy Brown in the new co-main event of UFC Fight Night 292 on October 31 at the Meta APEX in Las Vegas.
Brown was supposed to fight Carlos Leal. Leal withdrew with an injury, and the UFC needed somebody willing to say yes fast. Smith said yes.
Four Fights, Four Stoppages
The call makes sense when you look at what Smith has done with every chance so far. He is 4-0 in the UFC, and all four wins came by stoppage — three in the first round, one in the second.
The latest landed just this month at UFC 332, where he finished Bruce Whitehead inside one round. Most prospects get a breather after a night like that. Smith took a co-main event instead.
The news was first reported by Heavy.com and has since been confirmed by both fighters on social media.
A Veteran Who Needs This One
Brown (20-8 MMA, 14-8 UFC) is no soft landing for a prospect on the rise. "Rudeboy" stopped Nicolas Dalby in the second round last April, and his length and experience have ruined plenty of unbeaten records over the years.
But Brown arrives on two straight losses, to Gabriel Bonfim and Kevin Holland. For him, this is not a favor to the matchmakers — it is the fight that keeps his own run alive.
That is what makes the co-main dangerous for Smith. A short-notice replacement usually faces a man with nothing to lose. Brown has exactly that, plus a decade of UFC scar tissue.
Win, and Smith's rocket ride points straight at the rankings. Lose, and the lesson every prospect learns eventually — that the veteran level is a different sport — arrives on Halloween night in the APEX.
