Losene Keita's tease turned out to be real — and it is bigger than anyone guessed.

“This is not a call-out, this is a warning shot. Lerone Murphy I'm coming for you!”

— Losene Keita

The "Black Panther" has stepped in to fight Aaron Pico at UFC 333 on October 24 at Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi, replacing Arnold Allen, who was forced out with injuries. Two sources confirmed the change to MMA Junkie, with the promotion yet to make a formal announcement. Less than two weeks after his breakout performance, Keita (17-2 MMA, 1-1 UFC) gets the ranked leap he was asking for.

The tease came in a video posted September 17, in which Keita claimed he had accepted a short-notice opportunity against a UFC featherweight ranked in the Top 15. "Born for this," he wrote. The rumor mill pointed at UFC 333, where Allen vs. Pico was booked — and the mill was right.

It is a remarkable acceleration for a fighter whose UFC tenure nearly ended before it began. Keita, 28, was long regarded as one of the best fighters outside the UFC, but a failed weight cut cost him a scheduled Paris debut against Patricio "Pitbull" Freire a year ago, and he lost his actual Octagon debut to Nathaniel Wood by split decision in London last March. Then came September 5 at UFC Paris: a devastating first-round knockout of Muhammad Naimov, a Performance of the Night bonus, and an all-time celebration — Keita scaled the fence and took a cageside seat to admire his own handiwork.

Since then, the Belgian has been loud. He called out undefeated Tommy McMillen after Noche UFC and fired a warning shot at Lerone Murphy: "This is not a call-out, this is a warning shot. Lerone Murphy I'm coming for you!"

Pico (14-5 MMA, 1-1 UFC) is no soft landing. The former Bellator standout joined the UFC in 2025, lost his debut to Murphy via a violent spinning back elbow, then rebounded in April with a sharp performance against that same Freire. The Allen fight was supposed to be his statement; now he gets a different kind of danger in Keita — a short-notice replacement with nothing to lose and everything to gain.

Sink or swim time. On October 24 in Abu Dhabi, one of MMA's most exciting prospects finds out exactly how deep the water is.
